Our particular language strengths include:

We can also arrange translations involving other languages according to the nature of the document, the destination country and the requirements of the receiving authority.

Where certification is required, we will consider the requirements of the receiving authority and arrange the translation and supporting certification accordingly.

Certification

Certified Translations

A certified translation is commonly required when a document issued in one language must be presented to an authority, institution, court, university, bank or other organisation in another language.

The precise form of certification required will depend upon the organisation receiving the document.

We can assist in determining whether you require:

  • a professional translation;
  • a certified translation;
  • a translation accompanied by a translator’s declaration or certificate;
  • notarial certification;
  • an Apostille; or
  • further embassy or consular legalisation.

If you have received specific instructions from the organisation requesting the translation, please send them to us together with your documents so that we can review the requirements before work begins.

Translation & notarisation

Translation and Notarisation

A translation and a notarisation are not necessarily the same thing.

In some cases, the receiving organisation will accept a certified translation without further formalities. In other cases, it may require the translator’s certification to be notarised or the translated document to carry a notarial certificate.

Requirements can differ considerably between countries and institutions.

Before arranging unnecessary certification or legalisation, we recommend confirming what the receiving authority requires.

If you are unsure, you can send us the instructions you have received or provide the contact details of the receiving authority and we can assist in clarifying the formalities where appropriate.

Apostille & legalisation

Apostille & Legalisation of Translated Documents

Documents being used overseas may require further authentication after translation or notarisation. Depending upon the destination country, this may include:

  1. Notarisation

    Certification or authentication by a Notary Public in England and Wales.

  2. Apostille

    Legalisation through the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) where an Apostille is required.

  3. Embassy or Consular Legalisation

    Some countries require additional authentication through their embassy or consulate in the United Kingdom.

Karram Notaries can coordinate these stages where required, allowing you to deal with translation, notarisation and legalisation through one point of contact.

Process

How It Works

  1. Send us your document

    Email us a clear scan or PDF of the document requiring translation.

  2. Tell us the languages

    Let us know the language of the original document and the language into which it needs to be translated.

  3. Tell us where it will be used

    Please tell us the country and, where known, the authority or organisation that will receive the document.

  4. We confirm the requirements

    We will identify the appropriate translation service and, where relevant, discuss any certification, notarisation, Apostille or legalisation requirements.

  5. Receive your quotation

    Translation fees depend upon factors including the language, document length, complexity, certification requirements and urgency.

  6. Translation and certification

    Once instructed, the translation will be prepared by an appropriate professional translator and any agreed certification or notarial formalities completed.

  7. Apostille or legalisation

    If required, we can arrange onward Apostille or embassy or consular legalisation.

Request a Translation Quote

For a quotation, please send us:

  1. A clear copy of the document
  2. The language it is currently in
  3. The language into which it needs to be translated
  4. The country where it will be used
  5. The name of the receiving authority, if known
  6. Any deadline or specific instructions you have been given

If you are unsure whether you require a certified translation, notarised translation, Apostille or embassy legalisation, please send us the document and explain where it needs to be used.

We will reply by email, and you can then send us a copy of the document. Prefer to send it now? Email [email protected] or call 07498 201120.
